Algorithms Needs Surgery

Algorithms is off the Derby Trail, trainer Todd Pletcher confirmed today when x-rays revealed a fractured splint bone in his right front leg. What is interesting is that the initial diagnosis was a popped splint in a rear leg. The colt is scheduled to have surgery in Ocala probably at the end of the week.

“We are hoping that he only requires a minimal amount of time off, but he is definitely not going to make the Triple Crown,” trainer Todd Pletcher told Bloodhorse.

What a shame but this is the time of the year when only the strong survive and luck is just as important as skill in getting a horse to the starting gate on the first Saturday in May.
